Eccentric...and mean! Author Michael Blake reveals director John Ford's "eccentricities." Ford is the  winner of more Best Director Academy Awards than any other.  On his films, someone always ended up being picked on by Ford. When one of his favorites, Ben Johnson, couldn't take it any more, words were exchanged and Ben didn't work for Ford again for over a decade!  It happened during one of Ford's most idyllic movies, RIO GRANDE (1950), filmed in Kanab, Utah.  A classic.  Ford's other favorite location was the majestic desert and rock formation of Monument Valley, Utah. What was it like on location with the Master filmmaker? When Ford died, was anybody at his funeral to mourn?

Author, film historian and veteran make-up artist Michael Blake joins Rob Word to delve deep into the Ford mystic and the legends that surrounded him.  Find out more about Ben's altercation with Ford, Duke Wayne and Michael's love of Ford's west. Michael shares his own journey to Monument Valley to work on Johnny Depp's THE LONE RANGER and on Steven Spielberg's salute to westerns, BACK TO THE FUTURE Part III, on a special episode shot in another wonderful film location, Lone Pine, California.  Curious about movie makeup? Teddy Roosevelt? Michael shares facts about them, too.
And, don't miss this year's Lone Pine Film Festival over Columbus Day weekend.  October 6-10, 2022. Lots of movies, celebrities and famous movie location tours. See you there!
