THE REVIEW:
1) Design Impression
GOOD:
- it looks similar to current Samsung Note series
- the camera at the back and the placement of the front is trendy
- the gradient-colored back is nice
NEUTRAL:
- the size is a bit too much for people with small hands
- it is quite heavy too
- this is made of plastic and
2) Speaker Quality
GOOD
- the sound is loud but clear
- dual speaker is real
BAD
- no solid bass sound but still clear enough
3) ANDROID FLAVOR
BAD
- it's loaded with bloatware and some are not removable
- it also has Ads but removable
- some may find it nice but I hated it
GOOD
- it accepts 3rd-party launcher like NOVA
- Dev Opt can be activated without the notification banner
- some tweaks and the UI will perform lightning fast
4) Performance
GOOD
- it can game pretty well but not really impressive
- the MALI G52 MC2 with 950MHz clock delivers graphics decently
- Antutu score is 196,000+
- all apps I installed has not encountered any issue
BAD:
- you can't max out graphics settings of demanding games
- PUBG mobile only defaults to HD and HIGH with Anti-Aliasing turned off. It's smooth gaming but not at max quality.
- the same goes with Asphalt at default mid-settings
- ML with no high frame rates "yet".
- fingerprint is fast but misses out 2/10, I don't know why. Tried re-enrolling my prints but it's still the same.
- face unlock is quick but not recommended for security
5) Battery and Temp
- lost 7% playing a 30-minute PUBGM game
- it gets warm but not uncomfortable
- Users only on social media and not gaming can enjoy using the phone for a day and a half
- users on social media and gaming can enjoy a full day use
- heavy gamers can enjoy playing around 6 hours.
- 18W charging 20%-100% took 1hour and 40minutes
6) Mobile Data and Wi-Fi Signal
GOOD
- Dual 4G SIM w/ a separate microSD card slot
- supports dual band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz)
BAD
- no 5G support
7) Screen Display
GOOD
- it has decent color for 720P resolution
- the size is great for playing games and social media
BAD
- Huge screen is ugly when using full screen movies and other streaming sites
- it shows huge black bars on both sides
- that ZOOM in to use full screen is not a real solution
- No sRGB support on Dev Opt.
8) Camera
GOOD
- the image quality is impressive for its price but only decent if compared to hi-end devices
- it's punchy, crisp, and most of the time great
- autofocus is quick considering the price but not superb and not always reliable
- UI is simple and easy to understand
- the 2K@30FPS video resolution for recording is nice but only on well-lit area
- Video EIS or Ultra Steady Shot is a good addition considering the price but not that steady
- quad flash at the rear cam and dual flash at the front
BAD:
- no manual mode
- even on AI Cam, some beautification happen in poorly lit rooms
- no telephoto lens so zooming in happens by digital cropping an image
- macro lens @ 2MP is average. Not impressive
- Ultra Steady Shot only supports up to 1080p video recording
- a Short Video feature supports 0.5 slow motion but not really smooth
OTHER FEATURES:
- Built-in screen recorder where you choose with audio or without
- the screenshot feature has many options for editing
- FM radio is available
- Earpiece has crisp and loud sound which is best for old people like me
- Dark Mode is is easily found in the notification area
- Bike Mode can cancel out calls and even send SMS automatically
- Game Mode is available as well.
- Live transcriber for auto typing what you say. This used to be available only on Google Pixel phones
VERDICT:
- THIS IS NOT A GAMING PHONE.
- This is a social and productivity phone that can game decently.
- buy this because your budget is P8,500 and you have real use for the huge screen and the camera
- Do not buy this with expectations that you can use this as a full-on gaming phone
- for P8,500, you have a great camera and a decent performer
- SCORE is 6.5 out of 10.
