With the siege of Gaza cutting off access to essential resources like medication, medical equipment, electricity, and fuel, it will soon become largely impossible to provide medical care. The needs are enormous and growing.

“Now we have more than 3,000 wounded patients,” said Dr. Nedal Abed, an orthopedic surgeon with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), at Al Shifa hospital, which has a 700-bed capacity. “We have very limited medical equipment. Of course, no electricity is available. It is unknown how much gasoline is left [to run the generators]. It’s a matter of time.”

The Israeli military has ordered an evacuation of the northern Gaza Strip, but patients being treated in hospitals have nowhere to go. This evacuation order is a death sentence for the gravely sick and injured.
