Hello all,
Welcome to a Victorian heritage train video. Today we captured 707 Operations' Members Train, which saw the return of streamliner A62 to the main line. The service was a load test for the recently reactivated locomotive, which had been stored since 2014. Restoration began shortly after it was allocated to 707 Operations and transferred in 2020, along with A60, which was allocated and transferred to the SRHC on the same day. V/Line's A66 was also on the train acting as the driving unit and backup power in case an issue was found with A62.
The special operated from 707's base at Newport to Hanson's Quarry Siding in Kilmore East via the freight lines through Brooklyn and Jacana.
This tour is significant as it marks an important milestone in the restoration of A62 and the return of double A-classes to the main line, with the last of the latter being in freight operations during 2013.
We capture the train at various locations along a short section of line, and watch their run-around process in the quarry siding.

The V/Line A class is a classification of 11 rebuilt Victorian Railways B class diesel electric locomotives. As B-classes, they entered service in 1952 and were built by Clyde Engineering in Granville, NSW. After 30 years of faithful service, it was decided to overhaul the class, modernising the locomotives with a more powerful prime mover and auxiliaries. The first to re-enter service as an A-class was A73 in 1983 and the last was A81 in 1985 after eleven were rebuilt at Clyde Engineering's Rosewater Workshops, SA. Originally all 26 B-classes were supposed to be rebuilt, but it was decided it was more economical to order more N class locomotives that were on order at the time. The As made it through to the privatisation of V/Line, when they were split between the two divisions, four in passenger and seven in freight. They would begin retirements from 2012 as their age began to show and they were no longer required.
A62 re-entered service in 1984 and was one of the four allocated to V/Line Passenger. She retired in 2014 with the arrival of more VLocity trains. She sat in storage around South Dynon until she was allocated to 707 Operations in 2020, when V/Line needed to remove surplus locomotives from the fleet. She was transferred to Newport workshops on the 6th of June, 2020, with the use of H5, S306 and T413.
707 Operations is one of the mainline heritage operators in Victoria, offering day trips and weekend tours back to a bygone era, whether by heritage steam, diesel or electric. This is one of their day trips, however 707 are more known for their weekend services to remote locations around Victoria. For more information, head to:
