The Coombs test checks your blood for antibodies that attack red blood cells
There are two types of Coombs tests.
The direct test & Indirect Test...direct test is already discussed
This video deals with In indirect Direct Anti Globulin Test
The indirect test looks for antibodies floating in the liquid part of your blood, called serum.
These antibodies could act against certain red blood cells.
Purpose
It’s used as a screening process to see how you’ll react to a blood transfusion.
An indirect Coombs test is routinely given as part of prenatal testing.
Its given to every pregnant person to see if they have antibodies against Rh-positive blood
Also ordered if ur your baby is born with jaundice,
Results
A negative indirect Coombs test means you don't have antibodies in your serum,
This implies :
U Can safely get blood from that donor
U Don't need to worry about trouble with your unborn baby
positive result before a blood transfusion is a warning that the doctor will have to be careful when choosing donor blood
Positive test during pregnancy means you may need to take steps to protect your baby
