707 Operations 'Best of British Suburban Tour' (2017); F208's first run since 1999

On the 16th July 2017, 707 Operations held their 'Best of British Suburban Tour', featuring steam locomotive R707 and diesel 0-6-0 locomotive F208. After departing Newport Workshops, the tour first visited Aircraft station on the Werribee line, before visiting the newly opened Caroline Springs station on the Ballarat line, heading there using the Brooklyn freight line. The train then headed to Melbourne Yard using the Regional Rail Link, before heading back to Newport using the freight lines.

Travelling with fellow Youtuber SonixbusterX2000, we see the tour at a number of locations along the way. Being speed restricted, the tour was fairly easy to chase, although we almost missed the final two shots as the train was running early. Inbetween shots we also see a couple of V/Line trains including Vlocity DMU's and a N Class hauling some recently repainted N type carriages in the PTV livery.

The tour was named 'Best of British' due to the British origins of the two locomotives used; R707 being built in Glasgow and F208 (the design of which was very similar to the British Rail Class 11) being built in Preston, Lancashire.

This particular tour was F208's first run on the mainline since 1999, however since filming this video it has not made another appearance on the mainline.
