Cholera is a life-threatening disease
Cholera is a life-threatening disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The disease is typically transmitted through the ingestion of food or water contaminated with human feces.Cholera vibrio uses a type of toxin called cholera toxin (CT) to affect the intestines.CT is composed of one a subunit and five b subunits; the b subunits bind to host cell receptors, while the a subunit exhibits the toxic activity.CT is structurally similar to other bacterial toxins, known as A-B toxins, and specifically targets the intestines.
