Prithviraj Chauhan was a great Indian ruler who followed the Dharma Yudh principles, like not fighting in the night and grant their enemies mercy. This what happened during the first battle of Tairan when Ghori attacked Bhatinda and Prithviraj defeated him and captured him. Ghori started crying for mercy.
Prithviraj released Ghori but Ghori returned again after a year with a larger army and attacked Prithviraj again. This time he attacked the Rajput army at night time, taking them unaware. Ghori defeated Prithviraj and blinded him. He took Prithviraj to Ghazni and made him a prisoner.
Poet Bardai when learned about the whereabouts of Prithviraj came to Ghori’s court and asked him to see Prithviraj’s archery skills. Bardai knew that Prithviraj was a great archer and can aim and hit his target even when blind. When Prithviraj was brought to the court, Bardai recited the famous Chaupai giving Prithviraj a hidden clue about the exact seating position of Ghori. Prithviraj aimed the arrow and shot and killed Ghori.
