As with the other videos I’ve posted lately of Eternal, this features several changes over my previous film of this level, although I think I may end up rolling one back.

1. The Jjaro set is now centred primarily around blue, and it is somewhat more saturated than it used to be (though not as saturated as our other sets). I think it’s a huge improvement, especially for the “ice moon” levels

2. This now uses Cory King Tucker’s remix (Marathon remixes (2021) by Cory King ...) of “Leela”, but after seeing how it plays, I think I’ll move it to “A Friend in Need” to coincide with Leela’s introduction in Eternal. I’d switched this to use Craig Hardgrove’s “Leela” remix on this level earlier in 1.3’s development cycle (Leela is particularly important on this level), and I think its prelude worked really well for the opening of this level, while the intro of Cory’s remix would work well as a case of five-second foreshadowing of Leela’s introduction on “A Friend in Need” (and it’s also the most faithful to the original of the, thus far, four remixes of this song in Eternal). A great remix, in any case.

3. As with the last two videos I posted (Marathon Eternal 1.3b #09 Core Done B... & Marathon Eternal 1.3b #26 Eat S’pht a...), this features General-RADIX’s (https://www.deviantart.com/general-ra...) redesigned Fighters and Hunters. They have also made Trooper and Enforcer edits that still need some changes to be adapted into Eternal, as well as a bunch of Bob sprite edits that I simply haven’t had time to work into the game yet.

The gameplay of this level is much the same as it ever was; I always liked this level a lot and didn’t see much to change about it. I think I fixed a couple of bouncy walls since the last update, and I may have made the central area with Leela’s first message to the player a bit more open (in 1.2 it only had three entrances; now it has four). Overall, this level has been among the least modified levels in Eternal since I joined the project, though; I think the main change was that I increased a bunch of platform speeds.

We’ve still got quite a bit of rewriting, bug fixes, and new features to implement before we’re done with Eternal 1.3, but a release candidate will hopefully be ready sometime this year, and within the next few months if we’re lucky.
