One of the most powerful men of the 20th century was Joseph Stalin, the Dictator of the Soviet Union. He was a man who was greatly feared, and he would carry out a number of purges which resulted in the executions of millions of his own people. He was a man who was not to be messed with, as anyone suspected of dissenting against him was either executed or was sent to the gulags, the horrific forced labour camps. But he was a man who was not very well, and he had a number of strokes in the final years of his life.
But on the 5th March 1953, inside of his Dacha in Moscow Stalin died. Following an evening of drinking and entertainment with his friends he had a serious stroke and because of this he never recovered. There was a huge amount of grieving inside of the Soviet Union, as he had been the dictator for decades.
