BUTTON, BUTTON is wonderful short soty by Richard Burton Matheson who was an American author and screenwriter, primarily in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres.
"Button, Button" was first published in Playboy in June 1970.
There are Three main Characters:
Norma, (greedy and selfish)
Her Husband Artthur(sensible and contented)
Mr Steward (agent of an organization)
Mr Steward gives a PUSH BUTTON UNIT ans asks if they push the button somewhere some unknown person person will die. in return, they'll get $50000.
norma is trapped and pushes the button and the Arthur dies at the same time.
Norma shouts on the agnet that her own Husband died whereas he has told her that some unknown person will die.
then Steward says: "Do you really think you knew your husband?"
the story reveals the moral that Uncontrollable desires bring irreparable loss in life.
It may also be called the Modern Version of Greed is a Curse.
