Kadai paneer recipe restaurant style is a popular paneer recipe where paneer and bell peppers are cooked in a spicy masala. It is one of the most popular paneer recipes which is included on the menu in almost all Indian restaurants. I was always ordering it when we ate out. Kadai paneer cooking at home gets its unique flavor from freshly ground spices like coriander and cumin seeds, cinnamon, green cardamom, cloves, peppercorns, and red chilies. So it’s not surprising that karahi paneer is one of our most favorite dishes that we enjoy with naan or paratha.

Kadai paneer is a famous paneer gravy recipe that is commonly ordered in a restaurant. It is a spicy and delicious combo, paired with lachha paratha or naan.

Ingredients for kadai paneer recipe restaurant style:

*** For kadai masala:

- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 cinnamon stick
- 4 green cardamom
- 4 cloves
- 6 peppercorns
- 2 red chillies

*** For gravy:

- 200 gm paneer (cubed)
- 1 capsicum (diced)
- 1 onion (cubed)
- 1 large onion (roughly chopped)
- 1 inch ginger (roughly chopped)
- 5-6 cloves of garlic
- 1 tomato (roughly chopped)
- 5-6 cashew nuts
- 3 tbs oil
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- salt
- 1 tbs kadai masala
- 1 tbs fenugreek leaves (or kasuri methi)
- 2 tsp fresh cream

How to make kadai paneer recipe restaurant style:

- To make kadai paneer masala - add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon, green cardamom, cloves, peppercorns and red chillies in a heated pan. Dry roast for 1 minute. Let the mixture cool completely. Transfer in a grinder jar and grind into a smooth powder. Your karahi paneer masala is ready.
- Heat 1 tbs oil in a pan and add onion (cubed). Saute for 1 minute. Similarly add capcicum (diced) and saute for a minute.
- Heat 1 tbs oil in same pan and add roughly chopped onion. Fry till color changes. Add ginger and garlic. Fry for 1 minute.
- Add tomato and fry till soft. Add some salt to soften the tomatoes quickly. Add cashew nuts and fry for 1 minute. Let the mixture cool down completely. Transfer in a grinder jar and grind into a smooth paste.
- Heat 1 tbs oil in a pan. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder. Fry for 1 minute in low flame (do not burn).
- Add the prepared paste and cook till oil separates. Now add paneer cubes and fried onion and capcicum. Adjust the salt here (remember that you added salt before). Mix everything.
- Add water as gravy you want. Mix well and let it boil. Cover and cook for 5-6 mins on medium flame. (check in between)
- Add kadai masala, kasuri methi and fresh cream. Mix everything well and let it cook for a minute.
- Your kadai paneer recipe restaurant style is ready to serve. Serve with roti, paratha, naan or chapati.

There are some secret techniques to make this Kadai paneer recipe just like restaurant-style:

- Use fresh paneer prepared at home; there’s nothing like it. However, if you are using paneer from the store, remember to soak it in warm water for 20-25 minutes before using in the recipe.
- Do use freshly made Kadai paneer masala for this recipe. Refer to the homemade masala recipe I shared. Do not use your conventional masalas for Kadai Paneer. The freshly ground spices make a big difference.
- Use fresh tomato, which enhances the flavor of the curry. - Adding some ginger juliennes make the dish so much flavorful, whereas a little bit of sugar helps in balancing the taste.

Kadai paneer recipe restaurant style is also called karahi paneer because of it’s cooking in a Kadai. Don't worry if you don’t have a Kadai. You may use a wok or any other pan. Kadai is like a wok used in Indian kitchens. It is used to make stir fry and also for deep frying snacks and sweets.
The coriander seeds and red chilies are the main components of the Kadai paneer masala. I also like to adding cardamom, cumin, cinnamon, green cardamom, and cloves for that additional flavor. All the spices are dry roasted with minimal heat until fragrance comes out. And then it is ground to a fine powder. The addition of fresh spices makes this dish super flavorful. It’s incredible how much difference the addition of fresh spices can make to a dish. These spices are used in several recipes, so if you want, you can store this in an airtight container. In this way, you don’t have to do the extra step of making the fresh masala while making the Kadai paneer. You can use this karahi paneer recipe masala to any other dish you like.
