Influenza vaccines also called flu vaccine or flu shots.
Flu vaccines protects against the four influenza viruses that is most common during the upcoming season.
Effectiveness of vaccine varies from year to year, but most of them provides modest to high protection against flu and influenza virus.
Most flu vaccines are “flu shots” given with a needle, usually in the arm, but there also is a nasal spray flu vaccine.
The united states Centers for disease control and prevention and  The World Health organization recommend yearly vaccination for nearly all people over the age of sic months, especially on high risk population.
High Risk means:
Adults 65 years and older; Children younger than 2 years old.   People with Asthma;
Chronic lung disease (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease  and cystic fibrosis);
Endocrine disorders (such as diabetes mellitus);
People who are obese with a body mass index  of 40 or higher;
People with a weakened immune system.
Flu vaccination during pregnancy helps protect pregnant people from flu during and after pregnancy and helps protect their infants from flu in their first few months of life.
The vaccine comes in inactive and weakened viral forms. The live, weakened vaccine is generally not recommended in pregnant women, children less than two years old, adults older than 50, or people with a weakened immune system.
Flue Vaccine Prevents Millions of Illnesses and Flu related doctor’s visits each year.
For example in 2019-2020 , before COVID -19 pandemic, Flu vaccination prevented around 7.5 million influenza illnesses.
Average, flu vaccine reduce the risk of having to go to the doctor with flu by 40-60 %
Also, studies show that flu vaccine reduce severity of illness in people who get vaccinated but still get sick.
Flu vaccination also reduces risk of death caused by influenza.
Flu vaccination is very important in people with diabetes and chronic lung disease.
In such population, flu vaccine reduces risk of not only flu, but risk of worsening of their chronic condition.
Vaccines are Generally safe and Side effects are not severe or serious.
Side effects include: fever, temporary muscle pain or feeling of tiredness.
In very rare cases vaccine can cause Guillain-Barre syndrome among older population.
And severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis are very rare side effect in people with severe allergy.

Signs of serious allergic reaction can include breathing problems, hoarseness or wheezing, hives, paleness, weakness, a fast heartbeat, or dizziness. If they do occur, it is usually within a few minutes to a few hours after receiving the shot.
Flu vaccine only protect against flu its complications, not other illnesses.
For example: someone can get sick with another respiratory virus besides flu. Such as Rhinoviruses, or Covid-19. Or other respiratory viruses can cause symptoms similar to flu.
After flu vaccination around 2 weeks are needed to develop immunity against influenza virus.
If person infected before  vaccination, he or she can still get sick with flu, before vaccination takes effect.
