STORYLINE:
Mobilization is underway in Russia's Far Eastern region of Yakutia after President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial mobilization of reservists Wednesday to bolster his forces in Ukraine.
In the regional capital Yakutsk, an indoor stadium was turned into collection centre on Friday for the draftees, who will be sent further to the military units of the Eastern Military District.
One of the draftees told the Associated Press that he didn't expect to receive the call up paper in the street.
"I went to the kindergarten with my daughter and they gave it to me in the street. I came here at once. I'm fine, keeping calm," he said, adding that he hopes to come back soon.
"The most difficult thing is to say goodbye to the kids," another recruiter said barely holding back tears.
Putin's partial call-up of 300,000 reservists was short on details, so much so that the Russian military announced Thursday it had set up a call centre to answer questions.
