Using Combined EDS-EBSD to Characterize Solidification Microstructures in AM Materials

Additive manufacturing is a rapidly developing manufacturing technique that builds 3D objects by adding materials layer-by-layer. This approach is useful when conventional manufacturing techniques reach their limitations, and it can be used to produce highly complex structures and use less materials. However, the final mechanical properties of the additive manufactured components will be controlled by the microstructure that evolves through the layer building process.
