After many years of ultra-low interest rates, Australia's rates are on the rise.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) sets the official level of interest rates in the Australian economy -- the cash rate. In July the RBA raised rates for the third time in 2022.

In this video, I go through the statement RBA Governor Philip Lowe released AFTER the decision to raise the cash rate in July. I look at the key reasons why the RBA chose to raise the cash rate and what could happen in the future.

The focus is on why the RBA is raising the cash rate -- implementing contractionary monetary policy -- at present.

NOTE: I am only using the RBA's publicly available information for this video. This video is purely based on the released statement. You can find the RBA's statement here:

This video has been created to help high school students understand economics. I've got no predictions or forecasts for future cash rate movements.
