In 2022, the latest improved version of the Indian Arjun tank, the MK1A, will be unveiled at the Indian International Army and Navy Defense Equipment Exhibition (Defexpo-2022). The main improvements are said to be the installation of a new sighting system, an optical rangefinder, a new navigation system, and improved armor protection. However, the improved weight of the tank increased by 9 tons, resulting in a drop in the maximum travel speed from 70 km/h to 58 km/h.
The Arjun tank is a main battle tank developed by India in the 1980s with performance aiming at the third-generation level. The development cycle took 10 years, but due to technical reasons, mass production began in 2006. In 2007, the first batch of "Arjun" tanks entered service with the Indian Army. Initially, India planned to produce more than 2,000 "Arjun" tanks, but in 2008 the Indian side decided to choose the Russian T-90 as the army's main battle tank, so only 124 Arjun tanks were purchased.
