Aljazeera English: Pre-Launch Promo (2006)

This Electronic Press Kit was issued by Aljazeera Networks ahead of the launch of its international English language service 'Aljazeera English' (AJE) in November 2006.

The sequence opens with AJE's channel logo set against a world map which pinpoints the location of the its main broadcast centres including the hub in Doha and international satellite bureaux in Kuala Lumpar, London and Washington.

The rest of the sequence shows Aljazeera staff at work  testing equipment, rehearsing bulletins, recording voice-overs for reporter packages, preparing graphics  and posting content to the channels web portal.

Amongst the on-screen talent featured in the promo are Riz Khan, former ITV News presenter Felicity Barr, former BBC journalist Rageh Omar, and world-renowned news veteran Sir David Frost who presents a weekly programme on the channel Frost Over the World.

AJE is one of the first news channels in the world to be originated entirely in High Definition (HD)  as demonstrated by some of the equipment and hardware on display in this promo. However, as with all television news organisations, it relies heavily upon footage provided by outside sources such as news agencies and other broadcasters, which is not always created in HD.
