The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class delivers on luxury, but driving enthusiasts will want to look elsewhere. As the SUV counterpart to the C-Class sedan, the GLC prioritizes comfort and refinement over outright performance and handling prowess.
Powering the GLC300 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system provides a small power boost. The engine is smooth and reasonably quick, with a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds in the all-wheel-drive model. However, the GLC's road manners won't satisfy enthusiasts craving an engaged driving experience.
While it can hold its own when driven hard, the GLC favors isolation over agility. The steering is numb, lacking in feel and feedback. It simply doesn't entertain like the sharper-handling BMW X3 or Genesis GV70. The GLC's forte is soaking up road imperfections and coddling occupants in a premium cabin environment.
That upscale interior is a GLC strong suit, with high-end materials and an attractive design with Mercedes' latest tech features. Dual 12.3-inch displays (one for instruments, one for infotainment) integrate seamlessly, controlled mainly via touch inputs or voice commands. However, some find the lack of physical climate controls inconvenient.
Considerable options allow tailoring the GLC's cabin further, including ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, and upgraded Burmester audio system. Rear legroom is adequate for adults, and the cargo area is generous for the compact luxury SUV segment.
Standard driver assistance technologies include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Mercedes' latest suite of active safety features when optioned. The GLC's $48,600 starting price is competitive, but can easily soar past $60,000 with options.
While the 2024 Mercedes GLC won't satisfy performance purists, it delivers on luxury and refinement for those prioritizing comfort over corner-carving athleticism. The posh cabin, supple ride quality, and extensive personalization potential make it an appealing premium utility vehicle - even if its dynamic abilities are more luxury cruiser than sports car.
