In this video I will show you how to paint a realistic looking wet apple with dripping water droplets in Acrylic colors which is quite a challenge! though I love challenges....just kidding. Before I go further explaining the process of my painting I would love to thank the person behind the lens for providing me with such a beautiful reference image to work with and also the artist behind the audio track that I used as my background music, such a beautiful track. reference image- check out this link ,pixabay.com/en/users/Meditations-2077322/ background music-Sailors Lament by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: audionautix.com/ *********************** THE PROCESS OF PAINTING. I feel like the most important part of a painting is it's drawing and so I started off the initial drawing with a HB pencil where my objective was not to draw each and every intricate details of the apple but was to catch the basic shape and dimension of the apple correctly .For your notice let me know you that I used a 400 gsm medium grained paper from brustro with two thin coats of gesso over it because I didn't want a very smooth surface to work with rather I love the canvas like texture of the paper.I made a mistake by not stretching the paper while applying the first coats of paints that was basically blocking the initial colors. I used crimson lake ,scarlet lake and a bit of burnt sienna along with prussian blue. This layer was basically to cover the white of the paper and thus I applied them very loosely. after the first layer the paper buckled badly and so i peel off the masking tape and stretched the paper with clear water and left it for half and hour and then proceeded to work further .I then divided the whole painting in little segments and tried to figure out the precise shapes creating the values and proper colors. After that I drew the water droplets with a soft lead pencil in order to have a basic idea. I did not copied the photograph exactly because I used the photograph as a reference material not as the model to copy. After the drawing was over I used a thin coat of crimson lake mixed with scarlet lake to shape up the droplets .The further work was quite easy because realistic paintings are all about building layers upon layer over the other. You should not be worrying about making mistakes because you can fix it in the next layer.Likewise I build the layers and the forms started getting life, the most challenging part was to create those water droplets which took a lot of time and patience ,once the water droplet was done I focused on the values and the color of the apple more precisely and tried to match it as close as possible and then I started building the smaller droplets and the highlights of the apple along with the dark areas that is the most important part because it is the play of light and the dark that makes a two dimensional painting looking to be more realistic and naturalistic. It was then the most important phase of the painting because I needed to be more precise about using my brush and the selection of colors because it was those little intricate details that makes a piece looking realistic,I then used crimson lake mixed with prussian blue to create purplish tint which was very important to add a glaze into the apple .With few more brushwork I finished the body of the apple and then I moved to the upper head of the apple and completed that accordingly .....I took breaks in between I am human afterall!!!....it took me another 15 minutes to complete the stem of the apple which was quite fun to do after a full night's sleep. Now the remaining portion was the shadow of the apple casted on the surface which was very important to do properly because the shadow gives an illusion of three dimensionality in any painting .Once I was happy with the overall work I painted the background with the light sky blue in order to hide any wipe marks and also the paper white was looking quite odd.Hope you can get an idea of my process, as realistic works takes a long time to do so patience is the key .thanks for your support see you in the next video.
