Shat kriyas.

Shat Kriyas, also known as Shatkarmas or Shat Karmas, are a set of yogic purification practices in traditional Hatha Yoga. "Shat" means "six" and "Kriyas" means "actions" or "practices," so Shat Kriyas refer to the six cleansing techniques aimed at purifying and balancing the body and mind. These practices are believed to help remove toxins, improve physical health, and prepare the body for higher yogic practices

These practices should be learned and practiced under the guidance of a qualified yoga teacher or guru, as they require proper technique and caution. It's essential to approach Shat Kriyas with respect, patience, and understanding of one's individual limitations and health conditions.

How does Shat kriya help

Physical detoxification: Shat Kriyas help in the removal of toxins and impurities from the body. Practices like Neti (nasal cleansing), Dhauti (digestive tract cleansing), and Basti (colon cleansing) help to cleanse the respiratory system, digestive system, and eliminate accumulated waste and toxins.

Improved digestion: Shat Kriyas, particularly Dhauti and Nauli, stimulate the digestive system and enhance digestion. These practices can help regulate bowel movements, relieve constipation, and promote better absorption of nutrients.

Respiratory health: Neti, Trataka (eye cleansing), and Kapalabhati (breathing technique) benefit the respiratory system. Neti helps clear nasal passages, alleviating sinus congestion and improving breathing. Trataka improves eye health and vision, while Kapalabhati clears the respiratory passages, enhances lung capacity, and helps remove respiratory impurities.

Enhanced mental clarity: Shat Kriyas, especially Trataka and Kapalabhati, can improve concentration, focus, and mental clarity. Trataka helps calm the mind, improve memory, and enhance overall mental well-being. Kapalabhati energizes the brain and promotes a state of alertness and clarity.

Energetic and vitalizing effect: Shat Kriyas generate a cleansing and revitalizing effect on the body and mind. The practices stimulate the flow of prana (life force energy) and help balance the energy channels in the body, resulting in increased vitality, energy, and overall well-being.

Preparation for higher practices: Shat Kriyas are often considered preparatory practices for higher yogic techniques, including meditation. These purification practices help purify and balance the body-mind complex, creating a conducive environment for deeper yogic experiences.

It's important to note that Shat Kriyas should be learned and practiced under the guidance of a knowledgeable teacher or guru. Each individual's experience with Shat Kriyas may vary, and it's crucial to listen to your body, practice with awareness, and honor your limitations.
