Learn the secrets to CV carburetor jetting mastery in this video! We'll explain needle tuning and give you the tools to optimize your carburetor for peak performance.
A general overview of cv carb tunign procedures. with an explanation of needl tapers and tuning. I will be prepping this carb in the short future for my sons bike, in this case a 2001 Hd Sportster xl1200c.
The needle provides a tuning circuit in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle range. In ciertain circumstances you will have a lean spot in the midrange which can be taken out (richened0 by either using a neelde with a shallower taper or by rainging the needle by use of a shim. I see a lot of guys just running a larger pilot jet, which only masks the problem, yeah it makes the bike run better but not really correctly. By using a larger pilot jet you end up with a bike that on he idel to 1/4 thorottle is dumping entirely too much fuel down the cylinders which will eventually dilute the engine oi and wash down the cylinde walls.
