This is an illustrated interview of Sanjay Gubbi from the Nature Conservation Foundation, grantee of IUCN Integrated
Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme (ITHCP) and winner of a 2017 Whitley Award. Sanjay Gubbi has spent most of his
life saving Karnataka's natural heritage in the Western Ghats, India. The interview reveals conservation and development
can go hands in hands. Working with communities and with women in particular to achieve conservation outcomes has had
surprising collateral positive effects on the life and health of women and their children.

The Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme (ITHCP) is a strategic funding mechanism managed by IUCN which aims
to save tigers in the wild, their habitats and to support human populations in key locations throughout
Asia. It is supported by the German Government and the German Development Bank (KfW) and was launched in late 2014.
