Electric bikes are changing the bike riding habits of riders over the age of 70. Many senior riders that were sitting on the sidelines not riding bicycles anymore are jumping back into cycling because of electric bikes. But there are still a lot of senior riders that have reservations about electric bicycles because of safety concerns. Ebikes have motors and with the motor comes added power. This is both an area of concern and also excitement. The electric assist can takes some getting used, but once riders are comfortable it's easy and really enjoyable. So the question is can a 70 year old ride an electric bike. The answer is yes, but there are certain frames and motor sizes that are best suited for riders over 70 years old. A low step through frame is ideal for senior riders because it makes mounting and dismounting simple and easy. Also, a forward pedaling design ebike is a great option as well because it will have a low center of gravity seat. Keeping riders close to the ground will allow you to get your feet flat on the ground which ensures safe mounting and dismounting. Electric bicycles are great for over 70 riders and can really be life changing, just make sure you choose the right ebike.
