Newer model vehicles have capless fueling ports. A normal gas pump nozzle is long enough to open both both vent doors, which are spaced a few inches apart. If you open a bottle of fuel additive and dump it in: the liquid will make it only as far as the second trap door and not pass through, filling up just the little area in between, and overflow onto your vehicle.
