"In this video, the construction of a doubly curved shell called canopy using the oricrete method is shown. The form-finding and folding process is done with the hanging-cloth-reversed principle.
The oricrete method offers new possibilities for the construction of very filigree and light structures made out of Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC). Prefabricated oricrete plate elements that are equipped with a crease pattern can be transformed into complex three dimensional shapes by folding without a laborious construction of curved formworks. A design and manufacturing methodology exploiting the principle of folding is under ongoing development and was named oricrete since inspiration came from the Japanese art of paper folding origami (ori=folding; gami = paper).

The presented work was done in the project “Thin-walled folded plate structures made out of cementitious composites” (Project No. CH276/3-2) in the framework of the priority program 1542 “Future concrete structures using bionic, mathematical and engineering form-finding principles” supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. This support is gratefully acknowledged."
