We have batteries that need
We have batteries that need charging and we have no solar. We do however have an engine and a mains hookup which we will take advantage of.
So today we are going to be installing our battery chargers, this consists of a mains charger which we will wire into our leisure battery and also our engine battery. This should keep both of our battery banks fully charged at all times as long as we are hooked up to the mains.
We also have a DC - DC charger which connects the 2 batteries together and charges our leisure battery from our engine battery, this of course only works when the engine is running so we don't drain the engine battery so essentially uses to alternator.
We will get solar panels eventually but for now at least we have 2 ways to charge our batteries and we shouldn't have any issues. The only hiccup I encountered was that when the mains charger is on and charging the engine battery the DC - DC charger thinks the engine is on so starts pulling power back to the leisure battery. I have tweaked the settings so I think it is okay but failing that I might have to install a switch or something.
