Welcome to IELTS Academy 9. I'm Yossr and in this video we will learn more prefixes and today we will study the prefixes which mean before and after and if it's your first time to watch my videos on prefixes, please watch first the seven negative prefixes in English that you can find in the description box. So now, let's get started.

The first prefix is "pre-" which means "before" and it comes with a word such as "prefix." So, prefix itself has the prefix "pre-' and "fix", the root, which means to connect or attach. So, the meaning of the word is to connect or attach before a word. It also comes with "preheat" which means to heat before cooking like preheat the oven. "Previous" which means happening before something and "preview" which means to review or to check before showing to the public. The second prefix which also means before is "fore", F-O-R-E and it comes with words such as "forehead" which is the front part of your head, "forecast" to state something which is likely to happen in the future. "Foresee" to predict or to know before it happens in the future and "forward" which is a short piece of writing at the beginning of a book written by a famous person or someone who is not the writer. "Anti-" also means before and it comes with words such as "antedate' which means earlier or before a certain date, "anti-chamber" which is a small room that leads to a larger or more important room. "Anterior" means positioned to the front and "anti-meridiem" which is a Latin word and it means before noon and of course it's no longer used in the long form. It's abbreviated to am. The last prefix here is "post-" which means after. It comes with words such as "post war" or after war, "postpartum" and it means after giving birth like postpartum depression. It's a depression that women struggle with after giving birth. It also comes with "postpone" which means to do later or to delay and of course "post-meridiem" which means afternoon and again it's abbreviated to pm and as I told you before that we learn prefixes by practice. So now, it's time to practice. Please pause the video and try to think about each prefix that comes with these words and here is my answer.

That's all for this video. I hope you like it. Thank you for watching and please don't forget to subscribe to my channel and hit the bell to watch all my new videos
