WHY DO YOU NEED TO CORRECT YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE?
Most people have no trouble with incorrect Birth Certificates till they start to interact with licensing bodies, the government, or other countries. For instance, people often correct their Birth Certificate to take the board exam. The PRC is pretty strict and it requires your name to be exactly as it’s spelled on your Birth Certificate.
In addition, passports and visas require the exact name and a complete place of birth to be on a birth certificate.
Big or substantive changes require a court proceeding but are even more important to do. They affect inheritances, property rights, or benefits and must be fixed as soon as possible. As such, you should really fix any errors or omissions in your Birth Certificate as soon as you can. This can really help to avoid problems down the line.
TWO TYPES OF CORRECTIONS IN BIRTH CERTIFICATE
1. Things You Can Change Yourself: Administrative Proceedings
Eto usually ang mga clerical errors lang na ikaw mismo pwede mong ayusin. Allowed ito under Republic Act No. 9048.
2. Changes You Cannot Do Yourself: Judicial Proceedings
Eto naman ang mga substantial errors sa BC mo which needs to filed in court para ma correct and mas mahal ang processing fee dito and mas matagal din ang correction process.

a. Go to PSA Office
b. Visit LCR office for filing
c. Second visit in LCR office for submission of docs
d. Third visit in LCR office for the releasing of corrected docs
e. Second visit in PSA office for submission of docs from LCR
f. Third visit in PSA office for the releasing of the corrected birth certificate
