Welcome to "The Terrible Old
Welcome to "The Terrible Old Man" by H. P. Lovecraft, an unusual Lovecraft story for it does not feature any of his cosmic horror or supernatural elements but rather focuses on a simple tale of crime, a brief but very effective example of Lovecraft's mastery of suspense, atmosphere, and irony.
The story was written in 1920 and first published in 1921 in the “Weird Tales Magazine”.
This is the first one to make use of Lovecraft's imaginary New England setting, introducing the fictional town of Kingsport. It reminded me a lot of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories, who were a huge influence on Lovecraft.
