I am asked often about what I do to have clear, glowing skin in my forties. I’m happy to share what I do to keep my skin looking radiant and healthy, because it will help you to have a healthy body overall! Win! ✨ I had severe skin issues when I was a kid so it made me aware of the importance of skincare and the effects of food and environment on skin from an early age. So, this is proof that your greatest challenges can turn into your greatest victories! 1. Drinking enough clean water daily is imperative. It’s the first on my list for a reason. If everyone did this, and I mean everyone, so many chronic and acute health conditions would go away. Your skin is your largest organ. It’s an organ of elimination (among other things) meaning it is one of the routes your body uses to clean out toxins like your colon, and if you don’t drink enough clean water daily, it doesn’t have enough solvent to help carry the gunk out. Think of washing a floor, you use a large quantity of water and rinse the rag/sponge/mop often, right? Same here. Drink 1/2 x (body weight in lbs) of water per day you need to drink minimum per day in ounces. Yes, daily! If you weigh 150 pounds this is 75 ounces of water. The water must be filtered. As the saying goes, if you do not use a filter, you are the filter. Whether you have city water or well water it’s so important you have the best filter you can buy. Let me know in comments if you’d like some recommendations for various price points and situations. 2. Clean food. Fast food and packaged food lack many nutrients, fiber and overall vitality than foods that come directly from the farm contain. (You can buy them at the store, but for illustration, imagine you’re getting them from the farm.) If you want your skin to look radiante you need to eat foods that look radiant. Eat real food, not fast food or packaged or fried. If you still have skin issues after this you may need to go on an elimination diet. Dairy and wheat are often problematic. On the other hand, lettuce is helpful for acne. 3. Supplements. I’ve taken vitamins and minerals as supplements since my early 20’s thanks to my husband. I believe that by giving my body the nutrients it needs it can do a better job at repairing any damage that occurs from every day modern living and extra stressors like toxins in our environment, fast food, fried food, sodas and sugar-laden drinks, alcohol lack of sleep and even things that are healthy for you like exercise. How can your body maintain goood form if you don’t give your body the building blocks it needs to repair and maintain? 4. Skincare routine. I’ve used face-specific (i.e. not body soap) skincare products since I was 19. I use expensive products and I use inexpensive products, but they are all clean! Not sure which products are clean? The old guideline of, “If it’s safe enough to eat it’s safe enough to put on your body” still works, but there are many products these days that perform like the chemical-based ones that you wouldn’t consider eating but are clean. Check out the website the Environmental Working Group to check the products you have or are considering purchasing. www.ewg.org/ Oh, and for years and years I’ve splashed my face with the coldest water as I can get from the tap before I start applying moisturizers - I’ve been doing cold therapy for years! (Yes, this counts, this is enough. You don’t need to submerge your whole body in frigid water to get the benefits of cold therapy.) There are, of course other factors that you may need to consider for your particular skin. I won’t go into too much detail, but here are some of them: 5. Work with your unique skin issues. 6.
