JSW Steels was formed by the merger of two steel units of the Sajjan Jindal Group. Both these companies, Jindal Iron and Steel, and Jindal Vijayanagar experienced significant financial stress in the 1990s. They underwent a debt restructuring and then merged in 2005 to form JSW Limited.

It is one of the largest steel producers in the country. It has been profitable since 2017 and last year, it made the highest profit of over 20,000 Crores.

JSW has been accused of multiple wrongdoings and has been a part of multiple controversies.

It is now looking to invest aggressively and reach a capacity of 50 million tonnes by 2030. While most other companies have announced similar aggressive growth plans, if successful they could be perhaps the largest steel producer in the country then.

India Business Insights has presented this 5 part series on the steel industry, which includes profiles of major players, an overview of the industry and comparison with other international players. All the videos in this series are here.
