Two different methods of clearing
Two different methods of clearing the snorkel from water is shown in this clip.
The first method is simply to gently exhale a small amount of air just before reaching the surface. Ensure that you are looking upwards, facing the surface! This will clear all water from the snorkel with very little effort.
The second method is used on the surface. It's performed by forcefully exhaling, thus pushing the water out of the snorkel. While easier to master, this method requires slightly more effort than the first. A common problem is that a small amount of water is left in the curved part of the snorkel.
Modern snorkels with vents are a lot easier to clear from water than the old style shown in this clip!
