Curators Carlos Basualdo (Philadelphia Museum of Art) and Scott Rothkopf (Whitney Museum of American Art) take you on a walkthrough of the Philadelphia presentation of “Jasper Johns: Mind/Mirror.” https://www.philamuseum.org/calendar/...
The unprecedented retrospective—simultaneously staged at both museums—features a stunning array of the artist’s most celebrated paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints as well as many lesser-known and recent works, created across the artist’s storied seven decade career. During the exhibition tour, the curators discuss the organizing principle behind the two-city exhibition, its relationship to Johns’s work, and the ways ten galleries in the Philadelphia Museum of Art show mirror ten others at the Whitney in New York. In addition, Carlos Basualdo shares insights to Johns’s relationship to two major artists whose works the Philadelphia Museum of Art has long championed—Marcel Duchamp and Paul Cézanne.
