Foshan Ancestral Temple is located at No. 21, Zumiao Road, Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China. It is a temple dedicated to the worship of the Taoist Emperor Xuantian, a product of the worship of the Northern Emperor brought by the Central Plains people when they moved south to Lingnan.Built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085), it has undergone more than 20 reconstructions and expansions. The existing buildings are mainly Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture, with typical Lingnan architectural style. It is called the ancestral temple because it has a long history and is the head of all temples. At the same time, since the Song and Yuan dynasties, it has been the place for public discussions of various ancestral temples in Foshan, becoming a bond connecting various surnames. The Ancestral Temple is a group of buildings symmetrical along the longitudinal axis from south to north. The halls and pavilions are towering and magnificent. From south to north, they are Wanfu Platform, Lingying memorial archway, Jinxiang Pool, Bell and Drum Tower, Front Hall, Main Hall and Qingzhen Tower, with a building area of 3500 square meters.The whole building is made of wood and stone materials.The arch of wooden architecture beams are all made of solid wood joints.The roof ridge of the hall is decorated with Shiwan pottery (tile ridge figurines). The walls around are inlaid with a large number of brick carvings and gray carvings. The hall is decorated with wood carvings, stone carvings, iron castings, copper castings, and tin castings.It can be called an art hall. The Foshan Ancestral Temple Museum attracts more than one million domestic and overseas tourists every year with its rich traditional folk culture connotations.Leaders at all levels of the central government, foreign heads of state, celebrities in the fields of science, culture, and art often visit the Ancestral Temple to appreciate the profound Taoist culture, Confucian culture, martial arts culture, and folk traditional culture of Foshan.
