बॉडी मास इंडेक्स (बीएमआई) एक माप है जो दर्शाता है कि लोगों का वजन उनकी ऊंचाई के लिए सही है या नहीं।
बीएमआई का आविष्कार एडोल्फ क्वेटलेट ने 1830 और 1850 के बीच किया था।
Ancel Keys नाम के एक वैज्ञानिक ने पहली बार 1972 में बॉडी मास इंडेक्स शब्द का प्रयोग किया था। उन्होंने लिखा कि सरकारों को वयस्कों के बीएमआई को मापना चाहिए ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि वे बहुत मोटे हैं या बहुत पतले हैं।

The body mass index (BMI) is a measurement that shows whether people have the right weight for their height. Measure body fat % only with help of height and weight.
The BMI was invented by Adolphe Quetelet between 1830 and 1850.
A scientist named Ancel Keys first used the term body mass index in 1972. He wrote that governments should measure the BMI of adults to find out whether they are too fat or too thin.
Category BMI range
Seriously Underweight less than 16.49 (--16.49)
Underweight between 16.5 and 18.49 (16.5--18.49)
Normal between 18.5 and 24.99 (18.5--24.99)
Overweight between 25 and 29.99 (25–29.99)
Obese 30 or more
