Dominion Road is one of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s go to spots to experience traditional cuisines from all around the world.
Today we’re going behind the scenes of a Dominion Rd stalwart, Ras Vatika which has been dishing up homestyle Indian snacks and meals for over 20 years. We discover a restaurant specialising in Hunan cuisine from southern China and dive into the region’s most famous dishes like stinky tofu and braised pork belly before taking you into the kitchen of a wood fired pizza joint for some delicious Neapolitan style pizza. 1. Dahi puri, Mysore dosa and Ras-Vatika thali (medium) at Ras Vatika Indian Vegetarian Cafe, 596 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1041. Open Tuesday to Sunday 11:30am to 8:30pm.
2. Stinky tofu, red braised pork and stir fried smoked pork and radish at Hunan Restaurant, 710 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1041. Open 7 days 11:30am to 10:00pm.
3. Margherita and piccante pizzas from Pizzeria Rosso Pomodoro, 357 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024. Open 7 days 5:00pm to 10:00pm.
