Sparks Police officer Richard Gamwell searches a vehicle he previously searched and tampers with the most obvious video camera.  It recorded exculpatory evidence of the illegal roadblock and evidence that Reno police officers falsified their reports about the DUI arrestee reaching for a gun, among other crimes. Gamwell unscrews the back portion, which allows access to the SD memory card and batteries and presses one of the control buttons, which causes the camera to audibly beep.

When the vehicle was retrieved from impound the next day, the camera was missing, among other things. Upon learning the camera was not held as evidence, a theft report was filed with the Sparks Police. They have not followed up on the theft report.

It was the policy of the City of Sparks, executed by the custom and practice of its police officers, to needlessly delay seized motorists who assert their rights at roadblocks, and to contrive suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Police stopped conducting roadblocks in Northern Nevada in 2014.
