Volunteering at Elephant Nature Park

Elephants are beautiful creatures and seeing them up close in Thailand is such an incredible experience.  If you want to see elephants during a holiday in South East Asia please remember that elephants are wild animals.  Dancing elephants, elephants that paint and elephant riding are completely unnatural.  In order to get to the stage where these elephants are performing to an audience they will have had to be captured from the wild and tortured until they obey.  Elephant riding, elephant shows and circuses are all the results of torture.  This happens all over Asia, particularly in Thailand, where there are as little as 1000 elephants left in the wild.  

At the Elephant Nature Park (Chiang Mai, Thailand) all the elephants have been rescued from their previous captors in the tourist or logging trade and treated with love and respect.  Elephant Nature Park have several camps across Thailand were you can visit elephants ethically: no chains, no hooks, just love, respect and a lot of space for them to roam.
