This is the fifth in a series of six short animated films about the importance of good hydration in keeping care home residents happy and healthy. The award-winning Good Hydration! structured drinks round initiative is helping reduce cases of urinary tract infection and ensuring that older people need fewer antibiotics and less time in hospital.

The key messages in this video are:

• Bugs can travel up the urethra into the urinary system
• Drinking 7 glasses a day helps to flush out these bugs and reduce the risk of a urinary tract infection (UTI)
• Look out for the symptoms of a UTI including confusion, shaking, pain and blood in the urine
• Dipstick testing urine is not a reliable test to confirm a UTI in people aged over 65
• Avoiding hospital or the need to take more medicines for an infection promotes better quality of life
