Air New Zealand NZ902 : Flying from Auckland to Papeete | Business Premier Edition [2K SUBS ♥]

A trip of a lifetime begins. It was time to venture to French Polynesia and what better way to do it than in Business Premier aboard Air New Zealand on their 12 years old Boeing 777-300ER, ZK-OKO (which formerly was in 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' livery). Still one of my favourites to fly on – trans-tasman or long-haul.
The flight was in the evening so we arrived at Auckland Airport refreshed and ready to travel abroad since the pandemic started. After we checked in and promptly headed through immigration and security screening, I popped into the Strata Lounge for my first of three dinners. I spent most of my time dining and relaxing before heading into the main departures terminal and grabbing my second dinner. Then boarding commenced and I hurried towards Gate 7. I was never originally meant to fly Business Premier but surprise, surprise! A nice amount was paid to upgrade us last minute. The wonderful crew welcomed us and I settled in Seat 6K, right at the front of the plane. I got a complimentary drink, the first of many, and I started to wonder how I was going to film the flight since the seat was positioned towards the aisle and not parallel to the fuselage like in economy. Turned out I had to contort my body (quite painfully) to be able to get the shots that I could. Once we pushed back and taxied to the runway, the engines powered up and we took off towards French Polynesia in the dark. A bit of light turbulence passed and my third dinner arrived. At this point, I was so full but I couldn't help myself to indulge. It would be a waste otherwise. Besides, laying down on the lie-flat bed helped ease my belly cramps and I got a couple of minutes of sleep too. I didn't really use the IFE much (just watched a bit of John Wick: Chapter 4) and then passed out. I got the crew to turn my seat into a bed because I didn't know how, and they had to revert it to its original position in time for landing. But before then, I asked a member of the crew if it was possible for me to visit the cockpit after landing, and she implied that I probably would (since I was in Business). Time flew by really fast and before I knew it, we landed at Papeete and taxied towards Gate 61. I was then invited into the cockpit and got to meet all four pilots. This was the first time I had visited the cockpit of a Boeing 777 so it was a very memorable encounter, especially since it is my favourite aircraft of all time. After disembarking, the tropical, humid air hit us hard as we ventured into the terminal and progressed through immigration and security. Bags could be collected at Carousel B. Things took a turn when I found out I had botched my accommodation booking at the nearby hotel and so we spent the night in the arrivals hall. While I certainly wouldn't want to do that again, it was a unique experience. Please look forward to the next set of trip reports on the channel which would take some time to produce, so I appreciate your patience in the meantime. And what great timing to have the first Business Class trip report in time for that milestone. It's a privilege to continue making these after so many years.
