4.2 out of 10 parents in Singapore worry that their child is too short and some are seeking hormone treatment for it.

Talking Point host Steven Chia meets 12-year-old Hafiz, who is 7cm shorter than his twin brother Hakim. Bullying and name calling has affected his self-esteem. The solution? Growth hormone injections administered nightly to stimulate growth, even though there are known negative side effects like scoliosis and diabetes.

On the flip side, Dr Andrew Sng from the Division of Paediatric Endocrinology, National University Hospital, believes that as long as a child is growing 4 to 6cm a year, parents shouldn’t worry so much.
