Like other ships in the Carnival fleet, Luminosa offers Cloud 9 Spa accommodations across interior, balcony and suite stateroom types.

Upon entering the room, the first thing I noticed was the colour scheme. The yellow walls and red trims, burgundy carpets and dark timber combined to create a look that was anything but what I would expect from something called Cloud 9. Unless that cloud was located in the depths of a sad clown’s psyche.

Looking past the horrid colour choices, the room itself was surprisingly spacious. The bed can be split into twins if preferred. On one bedside, USB-A outlets have been added making it easy to charge devices.

I appreciated the extra space of the living area, the couch providing another surface to expand to while using the room. This particular sofa had two large drawers for additional storage. Towels are provided in the room for use at the pool or ashore.

The large vanity is well lit, and offers a single US and Australian power outlet. The hairdryer is hardwired into the vanity, and therefore doesn’t occupy a powerpoint. Its cord was fairly short though. As always, I say bring your own.

The room has a single flat screen tv with a closed network of channels that seemed to repeat most programming, but there were also live news channels from around the world.

One of the drawers includes a hardwired hairdryer.

There’s a standard bar fridge, which comes un-stocked. Additional cupboard and shelf space aids in-room storage.

Outside, the balcony for this particular cabin was spacious. It was deeper than I had anticipated. Because of this particular cabin’s location, the balcony was partially uncovered.

Back into the room, you get a real sense of its impressive scale. By the front door you’ll find the main wardrobe. The first door opens to reveal a small safe, shelving, and a full length mirror.

The second and third doors provide access to hanging space, plus an area to keep baggage although suitcases do fit under the bed.

The bathroom was once again surprisingly spacious. The basin and vanity area were quite long, and there was a decent amount of floorspace, meaning you could dress in there if required. There were shelves on both sides of the mirror. The shower is also much larger than you’ll find in the standard staterooms of other cruise lines. There’s a combined liquid shampoo/body wash, but I would recommend you bring your own.

Cloud 9 rooms come with additional amenities, in addition to cruise-long access to the Cloud 9 spa’s thermal suites, you also receive a scrub kit, the thinnest hotel slippers I’ve ever seen, robes for use onboard and upgraded bathroom amenities which in this cabin looked to be limited to this single cake of soap and whatever “shower gel shampoo” is meant to be.

If you’re a fan of thermal suites, I think it’s a great choice to enjoy cruise-long access to the spa, but I would love to see Carnival update their Cloud 9 rooms in a future dry dock to at least tone down the brash yellow and reds.

Let me know in the comments below - would you sail in the Cloud 9 Balcony Stateroom? What's your favourite perk of the Cloud 9 experience?

Thanks for watching!
