The Pashupatinath temple complex is
The Pashupatinath temple complex is located on the holy Bagmati river in Kathmandu, and is the most important Hindu temple in Nepal. Pilgrims from all over Nepal, and neighboring countries like India, come here to worship.
The temple complex is also the final resting place for many Hindus, and public outdoor cremations are held in the temple complex on a daily basis. After the funerals, the remains of the cremated bodies are 'offered' to the sacred Bagmati river.
Around the temple and on the complex itself reside many sadhus, these are religious ascetics or holy persons. Sadhus have important mythological and spiritual meaning, and dedicate their lives to achieving 'moksa' (liberation), through meditation and contemplation.
