Synopsis: This film's story is based on real events. On December 13, 1937, the Japanese invading forces captured the city of Nanjing and carried out a brutal massacre.
To protect the lives of refugees and Chinese soldiers, the monks of Qixia Temple, led by Master Jiran, spontaneously organized and established a Buddhist refugee shelter, aiding and resettling more than 24,000 refugees. In their resistance against the Japanese army, many monks were brutally killed by Japanese soldiers. Master Jiran and others, undeterred by the threat of death, aided injured and sick refugees while also finding ways to protect anti-Japanese soldiers, helping them safely cross the river. They also risked their lives to smuggle out film documenting the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in Nanjing.
