Canada is building a $6.4BN bridge across the Detroit river, connecting Ontario, Canada to Michigan, USA. The project, called the Gordie Howe International Bridge, will include a cable-stayed bridge with a 853 meter long span across the Detroit river, two ports of entry in both countries and improvements to the I-75 interchange in Michigan. Once finished, it will seamlessly unite I-75 and Highway 401, boosting transport efficiency, improving local infrastructure, providing redundancy in the case of closures and positively impacting the environment. Since construction began in 2018, the project has advanced significantly and is now planned to open to the public in Fall 2025.
