★고한읍
고한읍은 강원특별자치도 정선군 남부에 있는 읍이다. 고한읍은 사북읍과 마찬가지로 탄광 사업을 주요 수입원으로 사용하였으나, 석유와 가스의 발달로 인하여 석탄 사업이 사양 사업으로 들어가게 되면서 대한민국 유일의 카지노장인 강원랜드의 오픈 이후 지역 경제가 조금씩 활성화되어가고 있다.
고한읍의 인구는 약 4천3백명으로 법정리는 고한리 1개뿐이지만, 고한1리부터 고한19리까지 19개의 행정리(2014년 기준)가 있다. 하이원 리조트와 하이원 CC가 이곳에 있다. 과거 사북읍에 속했던 지역이다 보니 고한사북공영버스터미널, 고한사북보건지소 등 공동으로 운영되고있다.
특이하게도 주민들의 교통 문제 때문에 고한읍 모노레일이 깔려있다. 대한민국에서 6번째로 높은 산인 함백산이 태백시와 걸쳐서 있으며 함백산기슭에 적멸보궁으로 유명한 정암사라는 절이 있다. 태백선 고한역이 있다. 태백시로 넘어갈 때는 두문동재터널을 이용해서 넘어간다.

★ Gohan-eup
Gohan-eup is a town in southern Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon State. Gohan-eup, like Sabuk-eup, used the coal mining business as a major source of income, but the local economy has been revitalizing little by little since the opening of Kangwon Land, the only casino in Korea, as the coal business has become a declining business due to the development of oil and gas.
Gohan-eup has a population of about 4,300, and there is only one Gohan-ri, but there are 19 administrative districts (as of 2014) from Gohan 1-ri to Gohan 19-ri. High1 Resort and High1 CC are located here. As it was an area that belonged to Sabuk-eup in the past, it is operated jointly with Gohan Sabuk Public Bus Terminal and the Gohan Sabuk Health Branch.
Uniquely, there is a monorail in Gohan-eup due to the traffic problems of the residents. Hambaeksan Mountain, the sixth highest mountain in Korea, runs through Taebaek City, and there is a temple called Jeongamsa Temple, famous for Jeokchibogung, at the foot of Hambaeksan Mountain. There is Gohan Station on the Taebaek Line. When you cross over to Taebaek City, you will use the Dumundongjae Tunnel.
