STARGATE had some of the
STARGATE had some of the best visual effects done for television in its era, thanks in part to several third-party VFX houses ... but also the shows' own in-house visual effects studio, which was eventually set up to bring this important part of the creative process closer to home at The Bridge Studios in Vancouver. Leading the team of artists and technicians here, starting with STARGATE SG-1 's ninth and STARGATE ATLANTIS' second season (and then through two years of STARGATE UNIVERSE) was supervisors Michelle Comens and Mark Savela.
In this conversation "Dial the Gate" host David Read talks with Mark about the whole process of a typical episode, as the VFX team moved from evaluating a script to working with the actors and crew on set, from early modeling to the final render. By the end of the production year the team is juggling 9 or 10 episodes, all at different phases of production! It's a fascinating look behind the scenes of science fiction TV production.
