Sandeshkhali unrest: Suvendu Adhikari meets victims; hits out at Mamata over no arrest of Shahjahan

West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on February 20 visited the strife-torn Sandeshkhali island of North 24 Parganas. The BJP leader met the locals of Sandeshkhali, which has been in turmoil since January 05. He visited the area after a division bench of the Calcutta High Court on February 20 allowed him to visit Sandeshkhali. The court order came as Adhikari was stopped by police from visiting the island despite being granted permission to go by a single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court a day earlier. Apart from Adhikari, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh was also permitted to visit Sandeshkali. Shankar Ghosh and Adhikari had moved the High Court’s division bench after being barred entry to the island by Bengal police. The High Court said that they can go to Sandeshkhali but they cannot take any party worker or supporter with them due to Section 144 of CrPC.
