This video gives you a good sense of how to open and change the battery of a Samsung SmartThings Multipurpose sensor. The current model # for this on the SmartThings website is GP-U999SJVLAAA. It uses a CR2450 battery.

Once you get the sensor open, it's very easy to pop the battery out and put in a new one. I just didn't want to risk breaking mine by opening it again.
